Two Truths and a Wine

Here are three truths about my current location.
1) THIS is in the kitchen:

2) There are little to no high-glycemic foods in said kitchen.
3) I am watching the USA v Canada hockey game.
IF YOU GUESSED MY PARENTS’ HOME IN MICHIGAN, YOU GUESS CORRECTLY!!!
1.) My mom drinks boxed wine. I don’t know if I’ve talked about this [...]

Lens Envy

After uploading my photographs to Flickr, it only takes about two minutes of me rummaging around through other people’s images to come to the realization that my work is amateur crap. There is SO much talent and creativity in photography out there and my only hope is that I can be inspired and get better [...]

Straight Up Now Tell Me

I was feeling particularly bad about myself, midday Saturday.  Every now and again I have these days where I look at my life in its current state and my response is a wine bottle, straight to the lips. If that sounds dramatic to you, it is.  That’s the result of being an only child. And a [...]

Don’t Drop the Cope

I’m waiting for Damon to get home so we can visit his newly-born nephew at the hospital.
Having a little time to spare, I opened a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.
Mid-pour, I couldn’t help but think that this was my body’s coping mechanism before setting foot onto the maternity ward.  This is what I do. Whenever I [...]

When life gives you lemons.. fuck the lemons. Give me wine.

It’s amazing how much time you have when you’re not eating and obsessing about the food other people are eating. Day 5 on the master cleanse is nearing a close and I. FEEL. AWESOME. I did ask Jana if I could smell her nacho cheese at lunch today, but other than that, we’re good.
So I [...]

we’ll laugh and toast to nothing and smash our empty glasses down

While we visited mainly smaller wineries, there is something to be said for your larger, more famous ones. They are gorgeous, and have lovely lighting later in the day.  Here’s a set from the Robert Mondavi Winery.

Another dog that I wanted to steal!

Annie + Chardonnay

Jess, having a moment.

Wish I could carry them in my pocket.

Okay, [...]

The Wino and I Know (or: The Last Time I Will Use a Buffet Song in a Title Line)

Reasons I don’t have pictures of my favorite winery, Homewood :
1) I had a half day of drinking under my belt already and didn’t trust myself with my expensive camera.
2) It wasn’t a photogenic scene to begin with.
3) We were engrossed in conversation with Pierre, the French-Canadian, who poured us everything on this list, plus [...]

You Can Learn a Lot of Things from the Flowers…

When we visited the Gundlach Bundschu Winery (Gun. Luck. Bundt. Shoe.), it was rainy. But they had flowers. And I had my trusty camera.

and the less I seek my source for some definitive, the closer I am to wine

Did I mention I love, love, love wine country? It’s quiet and peaceful and rich and lovely, and you meet the greatest people with wonderful stories and limitless passions.

This is the winery at Nicholson Ranch (in the foothills of Sonoma)

They had this great big window in their tasting room that let in TONS of natural [...]

Simply De-Vine

..and other wine cliches.
Hey - remember when I went to San Francisco weeks and weeks ago? I still have more pictures, suckahs!

I left you at the Robledo Family Winery. Here’s a couple more pics of the outside…

That guy sent us to the Larson Family Winery.  Here’s a sign that greets you on the way in:

We had [...]

Robledo :: Some Family Ties..Some Family Lies…

The first winery we went to was the Robledo Family Winery in Sonoma. Note the quaint little Mexican music and slogan: A family who found the true American Dream. It was ADORABLE. We were totally suckered in.

Larry was our taster-person/pourer? I don’t know what you call that that. But he told us the story [...]

In Other News…

…I’m going to live forever!

My favorite part of this article was the last sentence:
“They also noted that a person would have to drink at least 100 bottles of red wine a day or take mega doses of the available supplements to get the levels given to mice, which may not be safe in humans.”

Really? 100 [...]

B.U.T.T.E.R.Y.

Um…will someone pleaaaase take me to the Bloomington Wine Festival?
Okay, I know, it’s $30, but! It’s a WINE FESTIVAL.
(Plus, all the proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington, so you can get drunk AND donate to charity at the same time.  That’s so bourgeois!)
There’s a wine bar kiddy-corner (Hoosiers read: “katty-corner“) from my [...]

Don’t Drink and Wrap.

Note to Self:

Next Christmas,
do NOT consume
ONE FULL BOTTLE of Chardonnay
while wrapping presents….

Once again, justifying Facebook.

So I decided I was going to hit up Blockbuster tonight, maybe grab a bottle of KJ* and get mildly toasted, alone. But what to rent? I’ve been known to wander video stores aimlessly for ridiculously long periods of time.  I needed a plan.
So I turned to the Devil Facebook.  What would my “friends” suggest?
With 167 “friends” on a list, you need [...]
