I’m trying to do NaBloPoMo for May, but sometimes I drink Chardonnay too early in the evening, like today, and I’m nearly three glasses in and I just want to watch the results show of Dancing with the Stars, but I’m JUUUSSSTTT sober enough to keep the commitment, so I will talk about Broadway msuicals. Musicals. Hiccup.
I mentioned earlier about Fight-or-Flight and running away to Europe and whale watching. Well, people, as much as I would like to do all of those things, I am STILL POOR and CANNOT. The next best thing? Musicals. I am a complete music snob but I ADORE ADORE ADORE MUSICALS. Musicals are fabulous because when things get challenging or difficult or dramatic in any way, there is a song and dance for it.
Like, when you’re making your first talkie, and diction is hard, but you can JUST TAP DANCE IT OUT.
Is that not awesome and gorgeous and precise and do you not just want to BE Gene Kelly’s TORSO?
WHY IS LIFE NOT LIKE THIS?!??!?!
BOO.
Hiccup.

One of my favorite musical scenes, partly because it MAKES SENSE that they (Kelly and O’Connor) would start tap dancing–their characters are performers. I mean, in musicals like West Side Story (which I LOVE), I can never quite get over the fact that I’m supposed to suspend belief that GANG MEMBERS ARE DANCING IN THE STREET. Anyway, I agree, why isn’t life like that?

I love it! I think I was smiling during that entire scene. This movie always makes me regret quitting tap lessons because my costume was ugly.
