OK, I believe you.

I seldom feed my own money into the jukebox. This isn’t to say I’m hustling dollars for tunes — I just very rarely carry cash. Most places in town have those digital joints, where you pay fifty cents per song.  You’ll typically find me and my girl Katie up there, the LEDs splashing color on our faces, discussing and deciding, ruminating over this moment’s perfect soundtrack. I’ll have my arm slung around the thing like it’s an old friend, as Katie quickly taps her index finger through a touch screen of good, but not great, options. More often than not, we’ll decide on a non-single that will require downloading and thus, a dollar’s investment. Rag and Bone. Beautiful Sorta. It’s always worth it.

Inevitably there will be only enough money left for one fifty-cent song, and lately, FOR NO APPARENT REASON, I have been playing Harry Belafonte’s “Jump in the Line.”

Harry Belafonte // Jump in the Line

At first, I played it for the enjoyment of seeing other people’s reactions. Now I just love it.

I was reminded of the whole Harry Belafonte thing when,  perusing old clips of the Nat King Cole show,  I found this video GEM .

Harry Belafonte was kind of a fox. And I just like watching the two of them say “shut your mouth.”

I was really looking for a clip of Nat King Cole singing THIS song, which, it’s safe to say, is probably the cutest song of all time:

And once it gets in my head, it sticks for days. I mean, they don’t write this shit anymore. Just adorable. And I just love the line “hand in hand to a barbeque stand.”

GAH! SWELL!
