Neil Diamond reminds me of the early nineties, riding around in my mom’s oldsmobile. (Also on the Cutlass Supreme cassette deck: Streisand, Bolton, Dion.) I don’t mind him, really - he’s not someone I LOOOVE but I’ve been known to belt out the lady-part of “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” from time to time. So when Neil Diamond was a featured guest on American Idol last night, I was midly amused, because all I wanted to see was someone do a really cheesy version of America. Thank you, David Archuleta, for the payoff.
For the record, I think Archuleta is adorable, and you would more likely find me getting arrested for attempting to smoosh his smooshy little face than buying one of his records. [Creepy! But true!]
And - how do they arrange every song he sings so that it sounds like it’s on the soundtrack to Oliver & Company? [Oh snap. Obscure eighties animated Disney ref.]

Everyone knows I’m a Jason Castro girl, even though Katie and Jana refer to him as “Jar Jar Binks,” and he’s been sucking it up the past couple weeks. But, in all fairness, not everyone’s voice is suited for MARIAH CAREY or NEIL DIAMOND. It’s hard to connect to an audience when all they can hear is the raspy tones of the Jewish Elvis.
Sound Off: Who is YOUR American Idol? And don’t come at me with beauty pageant answers, like “my nana!” or I will make you watch David Archuleta’s version of “America” on LOOP.

Since no one really answered your question ;), I’m a David Cook fan. I think it kinda sucks he’s on American Idol, but I think he’s someone people might actually listen to…
I used to be impressed by David A… But then I realized he should be played on some Christian rock station…
and I used to like Brooke White… but she’s just been sucking. And I don’t like it when she talks anymore…

Billy Joel did just that one song, I think…I know Bette Midler was the voice of the poodle and did a number as well (I seriously just watched it a couple weeks ago, sad.)

I think David Cook will be in the final two. I’m also convinced that I know him from somewhere - he totally looks like he may have been a bartender at the Bluebird or something.
Ditto on Brooke White. OH MY GOSH. But she totally would have won American Idol if they had it in the seventies.
