The Wino and I Know (or: The Last Time I Will Use a Buffet Song in a Title Line)

Reasons I don’t have pictures of my favorite winery, Homewood :
1) I had a half day of drinking under my belt already and didn’t trust myself with my expensive camera.
2) It wasn’t a photogenic scene to begin with.
3) We were engrossed in conversation with Pierre, the French-Canadian, who poured us everything on this list, plus a few that weren’t.

“We’ve been expecting you!” Pierre said as we scampered into the tasting room. Before you think that this is what they say to everybody, I say to you, NO! They really were expecting us. Apparently, a couple that we had seen at a couple wineries the day earlier had told Pierre that there were three girls galavanting around wine country. That’s what I like, a reputation that preceeds me.

I honestly cannot remember what we talked about, but I think we sat there for a few hours? (Maybe. Fuck. I don’t know. Don’t judge me. I was on vacation.) There was a younger kid reading a book in the corner, and he’d throw in a little comments here and there. When we told the story of Russell and the Cheese Cart, his ears perked up. HE KNEW RUSSELL THE CHEESE GUY. PERSONALLY. I was so amused by this. Pierre was also the one that debunked the Robledo fantasy that I covered a few weeks ago. I thought it was the greatest thing that I’ve been trapsing through Sonoma encountering all these different characters, and they were all intertwined.

Another reason why Homewood rocked - they shipped all the wine that I bought to my apartment. And not just the stuff I bought from them, all. of. my. bottles. I easily fell for this idea in my inebriated state, and then kind of fretted about it, worrying that maybe Pierre got girls drunk and then stole their wine. But a big case came the following week, and I ran out the door barefoot, begging the the Fed-Ex lady to halt and bring back my booze.

Happy and perschnickered, we headed to Napa to find some lunch.

I honestly didn’t think there were palm trees in Northern California. It was a pleasant surprise.

This is the place setting at a restaurant that we didn’t eat at. Cute though, huh?
