Jana’s birthday party was 80s-themed. I’m always a bit put-off by theme parties because they always involve more effort than I like in getting ready. But as soon as I hit the GOLDMINE that was the 96th street Goodwill, it turned into the highlight of my weekend.
For less than $5, I became the owner of a true-blue piece of 80s formal wear. (Also, a Jam Master Jay ‘87 t-shirt, not shown, but absolutely fucking awesome.)
Complete with bow.
(Any of you born-and-raised Hoosiers know about Davidson’s? All I could find out was that it was a “high-end department store,” but I can’t come up with any more info.)
Problem was, with this dress fully zipped, I like of looked like a sausage. I channeled my inner Ferocia Coutura and started to deconstruct the dress.
I bascially cut the top part off to make a skirt. I also picked up some sparkly pumps for a couple bucks. Everything else (sadly) I had on hand.
The great thing about 80s makeup is that there’s no such thing as “too much.”
I’ve had that pink eye shadow since my high school senior prom, actually.
And here it is put together….
(This next one was totally out of focus, so out of laziness I just threw a really annoying filter on it.)
Jana’s party was at Blu Martini, where they played a great blend of 80s and modern-day dance TUNES.
Bess, Me, and Amy.
We each claimed a 80s persona for ourselves to determine which kind of girl we would be in the 80s, and also what music we would listen to. Bess’s was clearly Madonna. Mine was Cyndi Lauper. Amy’s was Tears for Fears. We each had names, which I’m now forgetting (note the long islands in hand). Oh yeah! Mine was Tina.
Katie found a “Frankie Says Relax” t-shirt, which I am kind of jealous of and might go pick up sometime this week.
I saved this picture as “PUMP IT.”
There’s our birthday girl! (Also make this one tinted to make it look eighties-fied.)
I’ve been out every weekend since New Year’s. My liver’s all, “Are we in college again? Weeee!”
