As I mentioned earlier, I made a Thanksgiving dinner (minus the ham) for my parents, and it went off without a hitch. I owe most of my success to allrecipes.com, which I think is the greatest recipes resource, ever. Not only can you search tens of thousands of recipes, you can sort them by rating, and convert the number of servings with the touch of a button. (What am I, a commerical?)
Here’s what I made:
FRUIT DIP! It doesn’t get easier than this. Nice paired with tart granny smith apples and strawberries. DO NOT think you can re-create this with fat-free cream cheese and a splenda brown sugar blend. It will taste like paste and you will hate it, unless you were one of those kids that eat paste.
SPINACH AND ARTICHOKE DIP! Served classily, with Meijer blue corn organic chips, to remind us how the Native Americans probably loved their salty snacks on the first Thanksgiving.
SLOW-COOKER STUFFING! I don’t know how a crockpot works. I just know it’s magical.
GRANDMA’S GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE! Not my grandma’s, but somebody’s.
DOUBLE-LAYER PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE! Which was delightful, considering I had to Google “how do you know when a cheesecake is done?” (FACT: It looks totally not done.)
Goes to show ya - I too can be Martha Stewart.
If Martha Stewart buys her table settings on clearance at Pier1 the night before.
