Re: Last night’s American Idol…“Music Gwen Stefani Likes” does not a theme make!
…Still bitter about Gwen Stefani after that bitch stole Gavin Rossdale right out from under me… when I was thirteen.
I brought my very first diary back from Grand Rapids, and the last third is about my Bush/Gavin obsession:
November 12, 1996: “7 days until the new Bush CD comes out! WOO HOO! I’m so obsessed with this band! I mean, I’m constantly searching TV, Radio, and the World Wide Web for any info on them. And I don’t luv them just for Gavin or anything, it’s just Gavin happens to add so much…His music is totally in sync with my life, and with Gavin singing it in his sexy English voice, it seems we got this connection.”
January 30, 1997: “I was cleaning out my desk in school, and I found this note. It said something like, ‘I’m in your class and I’m in love with you. Love, Your Secret Admirer.’ Sigh…well, I’ve only got eyes for Gavin, so too bad for him. God I want Gavin. I know it’s just hormones talking and it sounds rather perverted. I wish I was at least 23 so I could be appealing to him for a while, ya know? I’d just want to be perfect for a couple weeks, or even a day, fuck him, and …I don’t know. Whatever.”
April 21, 1997 (recalling the Bush concert at Van Andel Arena): “I will never forget the way my heart started beating when I saw, in the dark misty grey smoke, the silhouette of Gavin Rossdale. Oh! The hair! He did it just the way I loved it most…He would move over to the right on this platform and he was soooo close. Like a bra’s throw away. And he would pass by and I would just throw myself up in the air to get his attention. And to tell you the truth, and I swear to this, Gavin and I made eye contact.”
Haha. I love my thirteen year old self.

Now that you ARE 23, do you still wish it? And is 23 yer old Jenn still in love with Gavin [yes.]?
I remember that concert at the Van Andel. I totally had the opportunity to go, but Mac and Joni said no. As punishment, I didn’t speak to them the whole day of the concert. Though I think that backfired and they enjoyed the silence. I did the same thing to them for the Smashing Pumpkins concert that I was “too young to go to on a school night.” Parents can really ruin your [adolescent] life.
