A Blue and Yellow Lining?

On My Current Job Situation

This is my last night working at the radio station.  I have outlasted ALL other board operators that were working here when I started a year and a half ago.  If there is one thing that I will miss most, it will be Talking Music with the DJs, Todd in particular.  Music dorks have a hard time understanding how other people don’t freak out about music like they do, and working in radio is totally a venue for that. Hmm.

Meanwhile, my schedule at Best Buy is 7-3:30pm, Monday through Friday, so the consistency will be a welcome change to my routine.  I have been in the inventory position for two weeks, and even Damon has mentioned a big change my attitude towards work.  I can really be my own boss most of the day without interference from any managers, which is fantastic.  Although I guess you could say I am doing more “important” work, it seems like there is less of it.  Meaning, I feel like I’m getting paid more for doing less work than I was doing.

This also does not mean to say that should I get a job offer in the next couple weeks I wouldn’t drop Best Buy like a bad habit.  It just means that when my alarm goes off in the morning, I don’t go into anxiety-induced fits.  There were a couple days in the past month where I was certain that I was putting in my two weeks the next day.  Worse yet, it put a strain on my relationship that was unbearable.  It’s really hard when you live AND work with your boyfriend, and you hate your job.  While Damon and I recognize the Store’s many flaws, he’s okay with his current position.  So it’s hard when your girlfriend comes home and bitches nonstop about how corrupt the store is, when that is your place of work as well, and you’re doing okay for yourself.  And when your workplace isn’t supportive, and the boyfriend doesn’t get it, it makes for a really bad situation.

That’s also why I didn’t blog for a while, in attempts to not get any [more] emo on you guys.  Things seem to be looking up, if even just a bit.   Perhaps I shouldn’t commit to that statement pre-Day After Thanksgiving, which is coming up this Friday.  I will be working from 4am-2pm doing crowd control.  (aka, I will be holding balloons to signify that end of the line and signing up people for Reward Zone, all the while trying not to get trampled/spat on/yelled at/harrassed)  I pray that this will be the last time I will miss Thanksgiving at Home.

Luckily, my parents are coming down to visit on Friday and we are totally going to a steakhouse and not pulling all that americana Norman Rockwell bullshit.  That said, I will still totally watch the parade.

Haha. I worked a couple overnights a week, basically just babysitting the board and answering drunk people’s requests. It’s an easy buck, but the overnights get to be killer after a while. Thanks for the association, I will always love WTTS!

I was kind of hoping you were back in Chicago so if I land this Starcom job and Damon decides not to move with me we could be the awesomest roommates ever!

So what are you working on now that Project Runway is over? More importantly, how is Tim Gunn?

  • If I had known that I would have called so you could have had a sober request or two :P

  • That would be amazing! I actually was just looking at apartments in chicago which are HUGE compared to new york. Chicago needs to start filming more tv shows and stuff there. Im working on a game show called chain reaction but im sure you havent seen it. No one watches it and work is pretty slow(boring)…SO project runway will start up again in the summertime. And as far as Tim, I think hes doing well. The last time I saw him was at the screening of the finale. Did you like that Jeffery won? Wow, this is getting long….Good Luck with the Job!
