Abbie’s latest post totally beat me to the punch – Best Buy as a bad boyfriend. (and I quote: “If Best Buy and I were in a relationship, I would have moved out and written dirty things about him in the bathroom stall at Nick’s.”  Nicely put, friend.)  I was thinking about this the other day when I used a quote from What Color is Your Parachute in my interview yesterday:

“The job search is more like dating than any other activity we might compare it to.” I used this as an intro to my compatibility with the company, and it worked well.

But I realized that if there is truth to this, then a series of abusive relationships are occuring at Best Buy at this very moment. For quite some time now, the aisles of Best Buy have been buzzing like the hallways of a shelter for battered women.  We are sharing our tales of frustration, rage, depression, and fear with the boyfriend who wined and dined us, long ago.  The grandiose promises Best Buy once gave us are replaced by criticism, upon realization that we could not, in fact, be brainwashed by his schemes.  Best Buy punches the stomachs of those who bear the change it wishes to see for itself.  Best Buy will take. And take.  And take. And when you are a bleeding, heaving, sobbing mess in the corner, he will swear that a change is gonna come.

Then he will conveniently fall asleep after you give him a blow job.

  • I couldn’t have said it better myself… all these new people I’m training seem so excited and I can’t stop thinking… “ooooooh, just you wait, you poor poor naive thing… he’s gonna slip you a roofie sometime in the near future”
