JOB SEARCH of OUGHT-SIX
Jenn vs. all twenty-something telecom/business graduates
Today I:
– Made good on my cover letter to Sunrise Greetings and called to confirm my resume submittal. People tell me this is an important job in the whole process, and I was kind of thrilled for even this slight hint of aggressiveness (which ultimately comes out of desperation).
– Applied for a assistant position at the IU Student Alumni Association. I know how cush admin jobs can be, and this one pays way better than either of my current jobs. Plus, if for some reason I continued in the whole Indiana University job-pool, they pay for a good portion of your courses, which means I could apply for the MBA program, and honestly? That gets me kind of hot, in a really geeky way.
– Applied for a Media Research Specialist position at Bernard Hodes Group in Indianapolis. This is basically the kind of job that I’ve been looking for, FOR-EV-ER. You know, the big-girl, actually-utilizes-my-degree kind of job. I’m actually qualified.
:: PLEASE SEND KARMA ::
((I don’t even know why I’m mindlessly rattling off my job prospects. Probably because I’ve already e-mailed my dad, and it’s too early to call anyone.))
– Toured two Bloomington apartment complexes, only to have my boyfriend decide that really? he doesn’t want to move out of his apartment. If he had his druthers* he’d want me to move into HIS two-bedroom, currently only occupied by him and Corona, his cat. I told him I’d think about it, which was really meant for HIM to think about it – It’s one thing to move into a new place, together. But a woman (no matter how beloved!) moving into your space could be your greatest fear realized. (i.e. I WILL BE bringing my oversized Bob Dylan print and he WILL be watching over us while we do it.)
* A phrase I don’t normally use but I hear in Indiana A LOT (also: Matt Wilson’s dad). I still can’t stand it when people say, “The car needs washed.” or “This needs put away,” because, honestly, how can that sound right to you?

So I read in Maxim… yes, I was reading Maxim (Ben, Eric’s roommate gets it in the mail and I read it when I get bored) that it is bad for couples to move into an existing apartment.
If maxim says it, you KNOW it’s true.

Similarly, Hoosiers also like to tell you that something isn’t functioning because “it’s broke”. Also, many refuse to use the past tense of the verb “to come”, such as, “Me and the wife come up here last year.”
While we’re on the subject of conjugation, it may not be technically incorrect, but I really hate the rampant tendency of everybody on TV to say “disconnect” instead of “disconnection”. Like, “Mr. Senator, there seems to be a disconnect between the public and Washington, does there not?” Even worse, though also not technically incorrect (I don’t think), is when a bank offers “free on-line bill pay.”
“Free on-line bill pay”? What the fuck is that?

…Says the girl who is BUILDING a HOUSE in SIN!
P.S. I already have been working on Eric to use his pick-up to move some my belongings. I told him I would help you guys build your fence or something? Labor trade!

This totally will not make sense, but “druthers” is a term that is supposed to represent “I’d rather.” Technically, saying “if I had my druthers” is saying “if I had my I’d rathers.” (i.e. outlining what you’d rather do in a particular situation.)
Weird, yeah? Then again, we are living in a part of the country that says “warsh” instead of “wash”.

Argh. I hear “it’s broke” a lot, especially at work. Sad thing is — and I don’t know if this comes from watching too many episodes of “Scrubs” or what — I actually start to have flash daydream fantasies in which I severely harm these people.
I need a new job.
