Do it

While I was updating to send Happy Birthday wishes to Matt, I realize how I never publicly thanked everyone for all the birthday happiness sent my way a few weeks ago.  It was really a great birthday; you guys were all so thoughtful and made my day/night absolutely incredible. (Bonus points to Leah for driving my Drunk Birthday-ass! :))

At the moment I’m listening to Don’t Come Around Here No More by Tom Petty and remembering dancing to it in a downpour and how everything in that second was really happy and uncomplicated.  While Life is great overall right now, I still feel as though the summer has been a four-month transition that hasn’t really culminated into anything but a feeling of: I don’t have to go to school anymore? I’m…done?

Not since Fall of ‘88 has Jenny not had to go to school, and it’s fucking weird.  Pre-1988, I could stay home and watch Sharon, Lois, and Bram and tap dance in the basement.  All damn day.  Now I’m peddling Kanye West CDs and talking to lonely radio listeners at 3 a.m.

Bitch. Moan. Growing up sucks. Complain. Blah. Argh.

One good thing about growing up: shot glass beats sippy cup.  (Although, now that I think of it, there is a nostalgic security factor to a sippy cup.  Perhaps if they served beer in a sippy cup, we’d see a reduction in the number of bar fights due to the sippy cup’s calming effects.)  Would you believe I shut down KILROY’S last night?  Fratty’s Paradise! On a Tuesday! And I had fun!

I was invited to an informational meeting for the company Quixtar* next week, in Indianapolis.  I was recruited by a man while I was in Best Buy who apparently liked my personailty and background in business. We met at Starbucks and talked over some options, of which $45,000 a year was the highlight.  The lowlight was answering questions like, “On a scale of one to ten — ten being very ambitious – how ambitious are you?”

“One,” I said. “Definitely a one.”  [kidding] I wasn’t really looking to change jobs.  But it’s $45K entry-level. It’s just stupid if I don’t get more information.

** I just realized by actually going to this website that Quixtar is actually a subsidiary of Alticor and is headquartered in Ada, MI.  ADA! The only thing Ada is good for is the Ada-Lowell 5 Movie Theatre, when you’re 16 and want to get into R-Rated movies.  I will laugh if this actually turns out to be the right fit for me and after all this time in Indiana, Grand Rapids actually searches me out and brings me back home.

Not to be a downer, but seriously…don’t get involved in Quixtar. It all sounds great, but it’s just like Amway: a pyramid scheme. It all sounds good, but I’ve had friends wrapped up in it. Seriously, don’t do it.

  • I vote do it if it sounds legit.

I mean, seriously, $45K entry level, and if nothing else- it’s something to put on a resume.

Plus, you’ll get some FUUUUUDDDDGE for coming home to me! ;-)

I think there’s something to be said for instinct, and I just didn’t get a good feeling on this one. You just might have confirmed my doubt. My mom compared Quixtar to Mary Kay. Is she that off?

Is Mary Kay that bad? I think Quixtar/Amway is much worse. Quixtar is doing the same thing Amway did…they just changed the name so people wouldn’t associate the two because all of Amway’s bad press. Go with that instinct.
